About CHROMOFLUX

EVERYTHING IS VIBRATION

Everything is in motion, in interactive interrelationships.
This is especially true for colors, shapes and volumes.

CHROMOFLUX was the last major art project by architect and artist Urban Cueni (1939 – 2026). He was a painter and sculptor (self-taught) and spent his entire life primarily exploring colors and color vibrations; color and vibration were, in a sense, his two fields of research.

Against this backdrop, in addition to hundreds of paintings and other artworks created during his final creative phase in the 2010s, CHROMOFLUX also produced its unique and utterly fascinating atmospheric floor lamps. Lake Geneva was a major source of inspiration; Urban Cueni had been living and working there since the 1980s alongside his wife, Ariane Lanzrein, who is also an architect and artist. Since 1998, they have lived in a beautiful house with a separate studio that they designed themselves and which, together with the entire interior and the surrounding garden, constitutes a total work of art.

A few years ago, due to his advancing age, Urban Cueni handed over the continuation of his art project to Juliette Kaltenrieder Farag, his wife’s niece. Since then, she has been working to advance the project in collaboration with Christina Suter. It was very important to the artist that his art project remain part of an ongoing creative process and that the fascination with the potential of the luminaires reach as many people as possible, inspiring them to design their own prisms. Work toward this goal has already begun through workshops, and it will remain an essential part of CHROMOFLUX in the future. Information on past and future workshops can be found here.

We welcome your inquiries, suggestions, and ideas.

Following CHROMOFLUX, we, the Chromoflux team consisting of Juliette Kaltenrieder Farag (his wife’s niece), Christina Johanna Suter, and Gisèle Wendl, also took on Urban Cueni’s art project CHROMOPAP and created another website.
